Project Description

This is my ‘1989’ Perentie 110. Its ex-Australian Army and was built in Australia for tough outback conditions, with an Isuzu 3.9L, diesel and a modified / strengthened galvanised chassis as standard. Since owning it, it has seen some modifications including a turbo, power steering, upgraded shafts, upgraded flanges, rear diff lock and rear disc brake conversion to name a few. The most recent upgrade has been to change out the tired, worn out LT95 gearbox / transfer box for an Ashcroft R380 gearbox and LT230 transfer box, these items has the following upgrades:

  • HD rear Support bearing (R380)
  • Later (stronger) suffix box (R380)
  • Sleeved casing (LT230)
  • Ashcroft center diff ATB (LT230)
  • HD intermediate and output shafts (LT230)
  • 1:1 ratio change (LT230)

This is not a simple conversion and involves a KLR Automotive’s modified bellhousing and many other changes to make things work. So far it has been fantastic and the center diff ATB is great on dirt roads. The box itself is much smoother and just a nicer thing to use than the original, plus it has a 5th gear!!
