Description
If you either have a tuned 2.5 P38 or want to fit a M57 to the ZF4HP22 then the only real option you have is to use the P38 diesel ZF bell housing and associated torque converter, this is the smallest of the 3 diameters of converter used by landrover and when this is used on a high torque engine such as this it results in high revs and lots of heat, you will often rev straight past the early torque the M57 produces.
Note this adapter plate only fits the earlier type M57 engine block.
We have now made a kit which allows you to fit the V8 bell housing to this engine block, by using the V8 bell housing you can now fit either the medium diameter P38, 4.0 V8 converter or the large diameter GEMS 4.6 P38 converter depending or the state of tune of the engine.
The kit consists of :
1 x 20mm thick aluminium adapter plate
1 x HD flexplate
2 x spacer rings
1 x crank boss, note the thickness differs depending on which converter you are using
8 x crank bolts, note the lengths differ depending on which converter you are using
4 x converter bolts

I bought this kit as a present for other half. Arrived in timely fashion so no problem there. However, when tried it on the engine it was discovered that it does not fit. We discovered that there are two M57 bellhousing bolt patterns, and this one only fits the earlier, smaller version. No mention of this on the website, so should be looked at in order not to waste everyone’s time and shipping costs.
Another solution would be to drill it for both patterns. (Note now added to website)
Only other that could be improved for aesthetics, would be to shape the outer to follow the V8 bellhousing more closely. (Will look at this on the next batch)
The kit itself seems comprehensive and excellent quality. Obviously we cannot comment on fit and function as we had to return it.

I’ve ordered this kit for my m51, wanting to utilize the bigger TC.
The top of the adapter plate needed minor trimming probably because it’s designed for a m57, it was bound up a little on the head. This was a only a 5 minute job so no worries there. And my crank bolts butted out on the crack shaft, just slightly so I added 1 washer between the bolts, this could also be because I used my m51 ring gear.
Everything else bolts up just fine. Even though it needed slight mods I’m very happy with this peace of kit.
