Description
Heavy duty 3.5 ratio using a tooth count of 28 on the crown wheel and 8 teeth on the pinion,
This ratio is aimed at those that are happy with the existing 3.54 stock ratio but want increased strength.
Please note that these are for the long nose Rover diff only and will only fit the Discovery, 90 and 110 front diffs. You cannot fit these to a 110 rear diff.

FAQs
I want to fit the Heavy Duty 3.5 ratio ring and pinion in the rear axle but leave the 3.54 in the front (or visa versa), will this be OK ?
There will be a ratio difference but it is quite small, with the centre diff locked on a low traction surface this will be OK as occasionally one wheel may slip to stop the driveline ‘winding up’. When on road with the centre diff unlocked, the centre diff will turn slowly to allow for the ratio difference, this slow turning will not wear the diff excessively. The only instance where this ratio difference could cause a problem would be if you were on the road or on a high traction surface with the centre diff locked which of course you should not be.

Of all things I set these up in the original diffs of my 1958 series I 88″ with 350BHP Chevy LS V8 engine. Back in the 1990’s- early 2000’s I was breaking 24 spline shafts like carrots, and R+P were not far behind. I feel these gears in this particular ratio are the only ones that will survive in my current setup. I ended up annealing and broaching my Ashcroft air locker side gears for 1.400″ 32 spline custom front and rear half shafts for this little beast, as the shock loads and abuse in the red rock of the western USA is just too much for any 24 spline shafts under my usage even with my little 7.50-16 tyres !! I machined out the series I front swivel balls to take huge CV joints, FAR bigger than the AEU2522 style. Very quiet gears running down the interstate highway at 75 MPH on my way to Moab! I drive up rock stair cases and walls that many 40″ + tire beasts fear, and confidently drive 1,000 miles home afterward. Excellent gears and lockers!!
