M57 BMW Engine to ZF Kit

(View Product)
  • Technical

You will need to use the starter ring gear from the L322 / BMW X5 diesel shown here, otherwise you can’t fit the flex plate bolts.

Please note if you are fitting this kit to the P38 engine, you are not able to use the above starter ring gear as it doesn't have the necessary crank sensor pins. You will need to mod the P38 one by adding 4 holes for the torque converter bolts.

If using the P38, 4.0 medium diameter converter you can use either the 4HP22 or the 4HP24.

If using the P38, GEMS 4.6 large diameter converter you must use the 4HP24.

The 20mm adapter plate and the V8 autobox work out the same length as the P38 diesel box so no changes to propshafts or mounts are required.

We can supply any combination of hydraulic or electronic 4HP22 or 24 to suit your vehicle, if electronic and not in a P38 you can control it with a Compushift

Please note if you are fitting this kit to the P38 engine

    Notes from previous customers :

I just fitted one  of these  kits a few  things  to point  out the v8 bellhousing  needs the  holes  around the  bottom  drilling  out before  fitting  as it's hard to drill out after  . another  point  to mention is the adapter  plate  is drilled and threaded  for the startermotor  also  the  m57  startermotor  is also  threaded so one  of them needs  drilling  out the problem  being  if the adapter  plate  is drilled  and the  startermotor  fails  you  would have to  remove  the engine  to fit new startermotor  there  are two allen  key  bolts for  the startermotor  supplied  in the kit but there  isn't  much  room  for  them to go  the other  way through  the startermotor  in to the  adapter  plate  so by skimming  a small  amount  off the heads off  the  bolts  and using  a die  grinder  to make  more  room for  the bolts  to fit I managed  to get it all bolted  up   other than  that it's  a nice  kit. Hope   this  will help  other people  in  future.
